Alana

Nathaniel

Marlene Orellana comforts her son, Nathaniel, a first-grader at Haggerty who has autism. Before they came to Haggerty, the district said Nathaniel should be placed in a separate classroom for children with disabilities. But Marlene and her husband insisted Nathaniel be integrated into a typical classroom.   Dan Habib photo

Emily Huff

"I don't think my days are like normal people's days, because I have to deal with the stress and the characters, and that takes a lot out of me emotional and physically," Emily said.
